Service Dog Training
Kayla's Paws Service Dog Training, Education & Assistance Foundation's Mission is broken up into several and diverse Training methods:
Kayla's Paws long term goal is to secure a residential training facility. This facility will be able to have disabled individuals come and stay for periods of time to train with their Service Dog in Training until training is complete. While the training facility is in its works, Kayla's Paws will continue to function in the same manner as before the non-profit. Kayla's Paws has a schedule designed where the trainer comes to the client and Service Dog In Training. When necessary, or to just pop in for advice, & check ups, distance training is often used (i.e. Visual Conference Call type sessions).
The training we have provided over the last 18 years, we have never had a dog fail training, and we strive to keep that quality training high to keep our excellent training record. We have had a small percentage of individuals drop from training, typically due to financial reasons, but with Kayla's Paws we are looking to utilize donations, fundraising campaigns, and grants to help those that under normal circumstances, could not afford the training at all or in part.
At this time, while are long term goal is in the initial stages of planning and development of a fully functional residential training facility, Kayla's Paws operating on the current standard of traveling to the client to train, applications will be accepted for review and the training director and assistants will train clients and their SDit's, on a first come first serve basis.
The applicants, regardless of their financial status, will submit a formal application and submitted to Kayla's Paws with an administrative no-refundable application fee. After the director and the training instructors review the application in a timely matter, the Chief Service Dog Instructor Trainer will make arraignments to meet in person with the prospective clients to provide a consultation/evaluation of the prospective client, their living conditions, surrounding environment and other factors to further assess the needs, answer any questions the clients may have and what training would entail, since each person and SDit program is different and designed specifically to that team. All individuals and their future SDit are different from the next, so each has a individualized program that is designed by the Chief Training Instructor Trainer. This gives us the best look at a person, their disability issues and assessments, which helps us develop what funding is going to be needed for each case, how long the training would be and other factors such as:
- The prospective client can afford the training and other financial obligations needed on their own with no financial assistance and/or with a financial payment plan or,
- The prospective client can afford the training and other financial obligations, though are in need of partial assistance is needed even with a financial payment plan or,
- The prospective client cannot afford the training and other financial obligations, and are clearly in need of almost all and/or all financial assistance.
The consultation and evaluation may be subject also to a donation fee, partial donation fee or no donation fee, depending on the applicants application and financial status to offset travel costs.
Depending on the prospective client(s) financial situation, we have a member of the Board of Directors that heads the fundraising committee and is tasked with assisting applicable clients or prospective clients with fundraising advice such as:
- Grant eligibility from other nonprofits/organizations
- At home/online fundraisers
- Fundraising Event planning
- Organization ran fundraisers
All application fee's, consultation evaluation fee's are tax deductible, and any estimate provided, if applicable, is tax deductible as a donation due to the nonprofit status of Kayla's Paws. Any equipment, vet bills, training, & travel is further deductible under IRS specific rules.
